Trails and Watefalls -Cloudland Canyon State Park
Cloudland Canyon State Park offers so much for those who love the outdoors with great places to hike and photograph. During out stay we tackled the trails to the waterfalls. Not for the weak of heart or those who aren’t able to participate in strenuous activities due to the 600 steps down and (you got it!!) 600 steps back up. If you can make the trek, you’ll be rewarded with great views of 2 beautiful waterfalls and the connecting mountain streams. On the day of our visit, we were fortunate to have had a strong rain the day before and the waterfalls were full and blowing mist on everyone. Quite a sight! There are huge rocks around the falls and streams offering numerous places to rest and enjoy the beautiful views.
The canyon rim offers several trails for hikes. There’s a moderate 3 mile hike on the west rim, a 7 mile hike on the east rim and a gentle east rim stroll just outside the Interpretive Center.
The east rim has a number of picnic areas along with covered pavilions for group outings.
We had a great stay at Cloudland Canyon State Park. It was a little cold for early March with a couple of freezes due to the elevation. We’re looking forward to our return next year. This time I plan to tackle the east rim 7 mile trail. Wish me luck!
