The Calm Before The Storm – Daytona Beach and Idalia
It was the Monday before Labor Day 2023 in Daytona Beach, FL and the calm before the storm – Daytona Beach and Idalia. Hurricane Idalia was starting to make progress north from Cuba and the weather reports were the possibility of making landfall on Wednesday along the section of the Florida Panhandle known as the Bend. On this Monday, the sky was clear, a gentle breeze and it was a great time to take an ebike ride from the campground to the beach and back. In the video below I share the beach repair progress from last years Hurricane Ian along with the great views of Daytona Beach.
Daytona Beach Hurricane Repair Progress
Joan and I return to Daytona Beach, FL each quarter to visit our son who lives in the area. We were in Daytona Beach last September 2022 weeks before Hurricane Ian struck the coast and created substantial damage to many of the condos, hotels, homes and businesses that stretch along Hwy A1A from Ormand Beach south to New Symrna Beach. Buildings were damaged, but the big impact was the result of the sea walls failing along the beach.
In the video below we show the repair progress as well as shots from the beautiful Daytona Beach. We also share tips for those interested in visiting the area especially during the “shoulder season” periods.
Daytona Beach and Hurricane Idalia
For most of the Daytona Beach area south faired well during Hurricane Idalia. We were fortunate to only experience some moderate wind gusts that lasted from sundown on Tuesday and continued for most of the day Wednesday.
For those along the west coast of Florida and through the pan handle we pray for your safety and a speedy recovery.
