Texas Ranger Hall of Fame

When we traveled through Waco, Joan’s stop for the day was Magnolia Silos in search of the ever popular Chip and Joanne Gaines. I wasn’t about to leave this central Texas city without a stop at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.

This is a wonderful museum dedicated to the valiant men who wore the Ranger badge and were instrumental in keeping the peace throughout Texas from 1821 to present. As you start your tour, you are greeted by a display of these early pioneers and their importance surveying the Texas territory. The Rangers roles expanded as lawmen and they continued to enforce the law until the early 1900’s with a clarification of their mission to “protect the frontier against marauding or thieving parties and the suppression of lawlessness and crime throughout the state.”

The museum is rich in displays including period dress, firearms, saddles and various other items. One of my favorite displays was dedicated to Frank Hamer who was hired as a Special Investigator for the Texas prison system to track down gangsters Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. After a three-month search, Hamer and Texas and Louisiana law enforcement officers ambushed and killed the criminals.

Other displays contain personal items from those rangers who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Each display shows not only the individualism of each Ranger, but there accomplishments dealing with the lawless.

Completing your tour, you’ll walk into a large theater containing additional displays along with an excellent large screen video presentation detailing the history of the rangers.

At the time of our visit, cost for an adult ticket was $7.00 and just $3.00 for the kids. What a treat to spend a few hours visiting these men who left their mark on Texas history.
