Skidaway Island State Park Campground
Many times when we think “state park camping”, we have visions of remote locations, far from civilization with long drives through the country to the closet Walmart or restaurant. This is definitely not the case for Skidaway Island State Park Campground. As the name implies, the campground is located on a marsh island minutes from historic downtown Savannah and Tybee Island.
The campground contains 87 camp sites and has the charm and feel of the old south with large live oaks and Spanish moss hanging from the limbs. Access to the campground is a short drive from I-95. The drive through the campground is paved and depending on the site, there’s ample space for the smallest camper to larger motor homes and 5th wheels. Each site is large with electric, water and cable and some even have sewer connections.
You can kick back and just enjoy the serenity offered by the peace and quiet of the park. The park and island offers three trails throughout the marsh offering great scenery and is a bird watchers delight. But the area has much more to offer with downtown Savannah just minutes away with the River Walk, great dining, tours and museums. Historic Fort Pulaski is a short drive with quaint Tybee Island and the beaches less than 30 minutes from the campground.
With so much to experience and regardless of one’s budget, Skidaway Island State Park Campground and the surrounding area is much more than just a weekend stay.
