Nashville – Parthenon – Tennessee State Museum – Broadway
Tennessee State Museum
The Tennessee State Museum is one of the largest in the nation with displays covering 137,000 square feet and time from the Paleolithic period to present. Open to the public and free of charge, the Museum contains a vast source of video presentations along with artifacts from the First Peoples who settled Tennessee, continuing with the early European settlers continuing with the conflicts from the Civil and foreign wars, and the many accomplishments to present.
The Parthenon
The Parthenon in Nashville was built as part of the1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition. The Parthenon is located in Centennial Park and was built as an exact replication of the fifth century BC Parthenon located in Athens Greece.
The lower level contains a permanent collection of paintings and exhibits from the 1897 Exposition. The main level contains a replica of the Athena Parthenon statue that was completed in 1990 and was in the original Parthenon in Athens.
The statue of Athena Parthenon was reconstructed to careful scholarly standards and stands 42 feet and gilt with more than 8 pounds of gold leaf. The statue is an amazing site.
Broadway
A trip to Nashville would not be complete without a visit downtown to the famous Broadway strip with its numerous museums, restaurants and music venues. There are a wide range of venues from the early days of country music to a number of multi-floor venues by current artist. Joan and I tend to migrate to the smaller spots where you can get close to the performers. Favorites are Layla’s, Robert’s and Whiskey Row.
Below are a few short clips I’ve included from our Broadway Friday night to show the amazing talent offer night after night in Nashville.
