Lane Southern Orchards Farm Tour
Joan and I enjoy going to the farms, orchards, and vineyards as we travel in our RV. We always find a warm greeting, something unique at each location, of course great farm goods by each grower. As we travel around Georgia, we’ve located almost one hundred certified farm markets offering a wider range of fresh foods and goods.
The farms range from small family operations that are a little off the beaten path to large farms just minutes from the Interstate. Most are within a short drive from our campground or if an overnight is needed, a number are Harvest Host members. On today’s stop we visited Lane Southern Orchards, known for their wide variety of peaches, pecans and a great venue located on the edge of Fort Valley, GA.
Lane Southern Orchards
Lane Southern Orchard is a substantial operation with 5,000 acres of peaches and 6,000 acres of pecans. In addition to the orchards, Lane has a market located 5 miles from exit 142 on I-95. We found the market was full of freshly picked Georgia peaches, local produce and pecans. We also found a wide range of jams, jellies, salsas, syrups, and a wide range of gifts.
We also enjoyed lunch at Lane’s café and bakery. The café offers burgers and sandwiches along with some of our favorite southern cooked items. And lunch wouldn’t have been complete without sampling their fresh baked pies and peach ice cream.
Depending on the season, Lane Southern Orchards has a number of fun activities to enjoy. In the spring they have a large strawberry patch and the fall is a favorite time with hayrides and their popular corn maze.
Lane participates in Harvest Hosts with overnight camping, giving a break with the café and a large playground for the kids to work off the long day of travel. As with many Harvest Host locations, the RV must be self-contained with no hook ups offered.
It was great getting away from the traffic and the highway with our stop at Lane Southern Orchards. A great place to stop as you travel through Middle Georgia.
