Joan’s New RV Makeup Space

by | Apr 2, 2022

Transitioning from one 5th wheel to another takes time. It’s not the moving of personal items from one RV to the other, but more so making it fit one’s lifestyle and needs. I’ve said this often, that it’s rare to find the perfect RV that hits all the check marks of wants and needs. That’s the case with our new Montana 3931FB 5th wheel – we love it, but there are those “nice to haves” that I promised Joan after the purchase. That leads us to this week’s project – creating Joan’s new RV makeup space. Her own personal vanity area and it is a big hit!

Bedroom and chest of drawers in the Montana 3931FB

Montana 3931FB bedroomAfter three recent trips in our Montana 3931FB, Joan came up with the idea for a RV makeup space. For a 5th wheel, our bedroom is spacious with a 6 drawer chest of drawers located at the end of the bed. The chest of drawers has a low profile and Joan added a makeup mirror to use as a vanity area. But, there was a comfort level where she was unable to slide the stool close enough to the top of the chest due to the existing drawers.

Montana 3931FB bedroomWe also have two large mirrored doors next to the bed that we think were designed as a coat closet. They are 12 inches deep and half the height of the wall. We had no plans to use with the back of the 5th wheel having a very large double sliding door closet area. More room than we need for our hanging clothes. This gave us the needed space for the conversion.

Creating the new RV makeup space and chest of drawers

Since the draws will be behind the closed mirrored doors, I built simple box drawers with soft closing slides. These new drawers will replace the lost space when I convert the existing chest of drawer area into the new RV makeup space.

Now Joan can be more comfortable, sliding a stool closer with her legs going under the top of the chest. I left the three drawers to the right for makeup, hair dryer, and curling iron storage. To give the space a factory finish, I added a false front to the inside of the new makeup area hiding the side of the drawers. I finished this new RV makeup space with matching paint.

The results

Joan is thrilled with the new RV makeup area. She now has plenty of space for storage of her items as well as a comfortable space. I couldn’t be happier with the project not taking away the value of the new 5th wheel giving the project a factory finish.
