Fun Fall RV Travel In North Carolina
Yadkin Valley Vineyards
This is our first trip to the Yadkin Valley are in early fall. Temperatures we very comfortable and the vineyards we stunning. We arrived at the peak of grape harvest and the many of the vines had fruit and very picturesque.
We visited a number of the vineyards and everyone quickly become favorites. Aside from the excellent vintages offered this year, to social environment were inviting. Everyone working in the vineyards welcomed all who came to sample the wines provide a very friendly atmosphere. With the pleasant weather, most enjoyed the outdoor seating, enjoying our snack, wine and great conversation. This year we visited:
Downtown Elkin, NC
The quaint town of Elkin, NC is one of Joan and my favorites. The town offers an unspoiled turn of the century architecture with many buildings restored offering restaurants, cafes, music venues, breweries, and a wide variety of shops.
A stop at Angry Troll Brewing is a favorites with excellent wings, burgers, specialty items and delicious craft beer. The building is a restored tobacco warehouse that is a showcase of great spans of timber construction.
A weekend lunch at Southern on Main is a treat. The menu is a mix of southern favorites with many dishes having a very unique twist of elegance and southern home cooking that keep this restaurant in high demand. Food is served indoors in a restored downtown building or the outdoor patio.
Reeves Theater and Café
Reeves Theater has been carefully restored and visually takes you back to a time in the mid-1900 when downtown movies houses were a center for entertainment. With the restoration, the front of the theater now offers indoor and outdoor dining. But, there theater offers much more with music entertainment throughout the week featuring both local talent and regional acts.
The Pumpkin Festival
The festival scene suffered during 2020 and it was nice to see many recover. This year, Elkin, NC again hosted the annual Pumpkin Festival. The downtown main street was block and the sidewalks were lined with unique craft vendors, food truck and of course, very talented buskers playing a wide range of music. And one of the highlights was meeting the llama. Joan and I could leave the llama without a hug and a picture.
It was great visiting Elkin, NC and the Yadkin Valley and we look forward to returning.
