Daytona Beach – Marine Science Center and More
On this trip we visit the Marine Science Center at Ponce Inlet, Veterans Museum in Daytona Beach, an afternoon trip to historic St. Augustine, all while sharing great places to eat, some of the sites, and a I’m cooking supper at the end of the day.
Marine Science Center – Ponce Inlet, FL
Our first stop was the Marine Science Center where we could learn and experience Volusia County’s rich marine life. We were able to learn about the Center’s efforts with sea turtle and sea bird rehabilitation, touch the live sting rays, and enjoy a wide range of sea life. This was a fun experience for both both kid and adults.
Veterans Museum – Daytona Beach, FL
The slogan “Freedom is not Free” could not be more true then visiting the Veterans Museum to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States armed forces. The museum provides a wide range of displays from the time of the founding of our country to current with articles and information about the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. This too is a great place for adults to reflect and for the younger generation to gain an understanding of the contributions from those who serve our county to protect our freedom.
St. Augustine, FL
It’s been over 3 years since our last trip to St. Augustine and the drive from Daytona Beach is around 30 minutes north. When we visited in 2020, we were in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak and there was very little available to experience. But things have changed drastically in 3 years and with those in the area from Spring Break, the streets and shops were packed with visitors. We stopped in many of the shops for sweets, candles, a few specialty items, and ate at our favorite restaurant – Athena for Greek food. And then a stop at the hot sauce store where I tried several large samples Carolina Reaper sauces. YES! They were hot!!
This was a fun day and most of all it was budget friendly.. There’s more to experience. Check out the links below the video of other fun places to see in the Daytona Beach area.
