Carnton House Nashville TN

Still having fun with another Nashville history tour. The Carnton House was of interest due to the fact this was the last major battle of the Civil War leading to Lee’s surrender a few months later. The Carnton House located in Franklin, TN just a few minutes south of Nashville, this farm, the home, and the people of Franklin were caught in the middle of a huge battle with the final result of 1,000’s dead. The house was used as a field hospital.

The tour addressed the McGavok family, the home, grounds, outbuildings and the cemetery for the war dead. The home has been beautifully restored to resemble the 1830’s period with many original furnishing. Our tour guide Trey was a walking encyclopedia of history of time period, area, home and family. Trey was both knowledgeable and entertaining.

Great place to spend an afternoon in Nashville.
