The RV Mattress Challenge
So why is the RV mattress so uncomfortable? There are several reasons:
- The RV mattress shipped can often be some type of lower cost bedding. Many RV’ers will tolerate a RV mattress for a weekend or the occasional vacation week. The RV manufacturer knows this and a lessor quality mattress can help manage RV production costs.
- Regardless of the quality of an RV mattress, the one provided may not fit the sleeping style preferred by the new owner. Some of us are stomach, side or back sleepers. Some may prefer a hard, medium or soft mattress. Some may have back issues that require a specific style and firmness to ease discomfort experienced while sleeping.
- Buying online can be a challenge for an RV mattress with limited options and unknown mattress construction only to find the RV mattress purchased did not meet expectations.
Given these reasons, I can’t lay fault on the RV manufacturer. There are simply too many options required to ship any one RV with the best mattress possible to serve everyone.
RV Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding
For Joan and my needs, it has been a RV Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding to the rescue. Brooklyn Bedding is an Arizona based, US manufacturer and family owned business making quality mattresses since 1995. Brooklyn Mattress entered into the RV market with a series of bedding specifically designed for RV’ers with a range of four styles of bedding to fit most budgets and more important, customizing bedding solutions with options for the various needs and sleeping styles required by the purchaser. The four styles currently offered are:
Brooklyn Wanderlust – This RV mattress provides variable depth top layers of quality gel swirl memory foam for a more responsive sleep experience with added cooling and the ability to customize your comfort. Variable depths in the high-density base foam ensure durability and stability for the life of your bed while also allowing you to customize your firmness level.
Brooklyn Artic Dreams – This RV mattress is offered with two core options. The all-foam version features a 7.5” high-density foundation with open cell technology. And the hybrid features a 6” layer of individually encased coils paired with 1” high-density foam. The RV mattress is designed to deliver ultimate pressure point relief while decreasing motion transfer between sleep partners.
Brooklyn Signature – This RV mattress has variable foams in the comfort and transition layers allowing you to choose just the right firmness for your sleep experience. The bedding can be configured with varying thicknesses of patented TitanFlex™ foam for the contouring properties of memory foam with the responsiveness of latex, along with varying thicknesses of VariFlex™ transition layer for deeper compression support. The mattress also contains Ascension® coils providing deep compression support while decreasing motion transfer between sleep partners.
Brooklyn Aurora – This premium RV mattress has a top layer of patented CopperFlex™ foam for more responsive contouring with targeted pressure point relief and the antimicrobial properties of copper. A surface infusion of TitanCool™ maintains skin temperature. A layer of hyper-elastic TitanFlex™ foam offers cloud-like comfort that adjusts to your body each time you move. A layer of Swirl Visco-Elastic Memory Foam for enhanced contouring and deeper compression support. All a top of a base of individually encased Ascension X® coils delivering ultimate pressure point relief while decreasing motion transfer between sleep partners.
With the four types of RV mattress, each offers a range of sizes to fit most RVs, and firmness selection from soft, medium to firm. And at the time of the release of this blog, each mattress purchased comes with a 120-night risk free trail (see the RV Mattress website for details.)
Our RV Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding Experience
Joan and I had hopes the new RV Mattress by Brooklyn Bedding would offer a more comfortable sleeping experience. We have to admit, the new Brooklyn Aurora RV mattress we tested exceeded our expectations. Having the new mattress in place for only a few hours, we first noticed the bedding components used had no odor and no off-gassing. This can be a complaint often found in many foam mattress discussions. Adding to the positive experience was our skin temperature did not increase. Again, complaints are often found where certain foams used in mattresses can caused skin temperatures to rise to very uncomfortable levels. And equally important was the contouring properties of the mattress, removing the pressure points along the body. Overall, the sleeping experience was wonderful, eliminating tossing and turning throughout the night.
We appreciate Brooklyn Bedding providing us with an evaluation mattress. Please take a few minutes to view the video below for the unboxing and placement of the new RV mattress along with comments from Joan and me.
